Cadence and other pirates of JazzIn Reply to: MEMORANDUM #1 -- FOR SERIOUS COLLECTORS OF BILL DIXON'S MUSIC posted by Bill Dixon on October 20, 1999 at 21:57:35:
![]() In you posting you said "CADENCE and its subsidiary PIMP Records with this knowledge aforethought has gone ahead with this violation and artistic traversty despite warnings issued in 1997 form Bill Dixon Inc.'s trademark and patent attorney not to do so." Traditionally, jazz musicians have been manipulated and misused by the establishment. That's exactly why you staged the October Revolution in 1964, isn't it? My Master's Thesis, THE CULTURAL POLITICS OF COMMERCIAL JAZZ, highlights your efforts to bring dignity to the lives and careers of jazz musicians of African descent. It's noteworthy that nothing has really changed in 35 years. Black musicians, revered in Europe, are still disrespected here in the U.S.A. Whether it's cultural politics or simple "Dog eat dog" the beat surely goes on.
