I found your answer really informative. It really tells me a lot about how you think about
trumpet playing and I appreciate that.

It's true that you can't predict with great accuracy what a listener would like, but I now have an
idea of what kind of music you play. It's neat to hear about your duet with Oxley. I had an opportunity to hear him play last year and it was a real pleasure. I have been listening to
a number of sax/percussion duets recently and I wondered where I could hear some
trumpet/percussion work. A lot of trumpeters might have trouble sustaining interest
because there are less gimmicks. I look forward to the Soul Note release.

Your description of which releases are "melodic" is useful to me. When I listen to the "free" side of music, I usually prefer more lyrical stuff than noisy stuff. Recently, I've been listening
intensely to Woody Shaw and I am amazed at how he is always on the edge between
between composed music and free music. Guys like Don Cherry impress me in the same way
although Cherry was playing free, but it sounded like he was following changes.

It's also neat how you listed as inspirations the Basie and Ellington trumpet players. It's
sometimes hard for me to really hear what they were playing because I've grown
up listening to Miles, Lee Morgan and Dizzy.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Sincerely,
Fabio!!
